How to check if a new set of blades will fit your old fan

If your fan is still working well but the blades look a bit tired, it may be time for a refresh.

On this style of blade the distance between these two holes needs to be 90mm in order for the new blades to fit.

If you do no have this style of blade, then we will need to know which fan model you have in order to advise whether spare blades are available.

How to code the fans individually for independent operation

NOTE: One handset and receiver is required per fan

When setting up multiple ceiling fans with a remote system, each fan in turn needs to be powered up, coded using the steps below, and then DISCONNECTED from the power supply BEFORE moving on to the next fan.

Coding the Remote System

If one handset is operating more than one fan then perform a factory reset on the remote systems on all affected fans.

Follow the same steps as above BUT on step 2 hold down the OFF button until you get a second double flash from the light on the fan.

This will clear any coding and return the remote system to the factory default.

Troubleshooting a Noisy Remote Control Operated Fan

If the noisy fan is fitted with a remote control system then we need to first establish whether this could be causing the noise.

It is important to note that even noises that sound like they are purely mechanical can be produced by a faulty remote-control receiver.

The best test in this circumstance is to remove the remote control receiver and wire the ceiling fan direct.

If this happens without the previously experienced motor noise then it is the receiver that is at fault and needs replacing.

If you are still experiencing noise from the ceiling fan with the receiver removed then switch the reverse switch to the opposite direction.

Trouble Shooting for Fantasia Fans fitted with Remote Control systems

Caution – Electrical Wiring advice – This guide contains advice on electrical wiring.

It is important to remember that once a pull cord operated ceiling fan has a remote control installed it is should ONLY be controlled by the remote control handset.

*Before starting any trouble shooting please ensure you have fitted a fresh battery in the handset*

Fan makes a humming/buzzing sound on one or all speeds.

Solution

The best test in this circumstance is to remove the remote control receiver (the box in the top canopy of the fan) and wire the ceiling fan direct.
The above information is also explained in a very useful video that can be found here The M2 remote system uses dip switches located in the battery compartment of the handset and also on the side of the remote receiver which is located in the top canopy of the ceiling fan where is fixes to the ceiling.
The M3 remote system is what we call a 'learning' remote.

The ceiling fan does not come on OR does not run on all speeds OR speeds are slower than expected

Solution

If there is a remote control fitted AND there are pull cords on the fan the try a reset in order to synchronise the remote receiver with the pull cords:

a) Switch the power to the fan unit off and then back on

b) Press high speed on the remote handset

c) Pull the fan speed pull cord one, two or three times until you get a genuine high speed

d) Check you are getting three different speeds on the fan from the remote control handset operation

e) Leave the pull cord alone and only use the ceiling fan handset for operation

This procedure should then allow the ceiling fan to run at the correct speeds.

The remote control appears to work correctly other than the fact that is won’t switch the fan function off.
Solution

Unfortunately, this is a hallmark of a failing receiver.

Identifying Fan Models - Which model fan do I have?

When you contact our customer support for help with your fan, the first question we will ask is "Which model fan do you have?
This is important because some fans have specific characteristics that are unique to that particular model.
All our fans are identified by a model name, such as Mayfair, Capri or Aero.
The fan model name can be found on the front of the instruction manual.
Remote control systems are often specific to a particular fan and cannot be used on other models.
The handset may look the same, but the ratings on the remote control receiver unit can vary according to the fan model and its particular motor ratings.
If all else fails and you can't find the model reference anywhere, the best thing to do is take a photograph of the fan and email it to us at info@fantasiaceilingfans.

Troubleshooting a Noisy Pull Cord Operated Fan

A noise coming from a pull cord operated fan (with no remote controller) is often caused by something vibrating as it has worked slightly loose.
If the noise is still present then try removing any glass shades completely and take the blades and blade carriers off so just the motor alone is spinning.
A ceiling fan can be wired into an existing lighting circuit (two core and earth) and is a simple DIY job.

How do I do it?
A big strip fastener can be used to aid the fitting of any ceiling fan in a conservatory or to a beam.

Measurements given for fan sizes are the total diameter of the fan, from blade tip to blade tip, not the length of each blade.
A minimum of 6” must be allowed between the tip of the blade and the slope of the ceiling, or any other obstruction.
The Drop Rod length is determined by the ceiling height.
